Speciality Courses » Drift Diver
Probably one of the most frequent diving activities undertaken in NZ! Ever dived for scallops?? If you have then chances are that you have completed a drift dive.
Other than using a scooter, when diving in a current, drift diving can provide you with the greatest enjoyment with the least amount of energy. Rather than fighting the current at start of your dive, you can utilise the current to propel you along without any effort at all. Also by learning how to use equipment that will increase your safety, using a reel & surface dive float for instance. Proper & safe training in this will show the boat person exactly where you are and also provide a visual ascent line for you to use at the end of the dive. (You can also attach your scallop bag to the end of the line and retrieve it when you have surfaced, this will save you having to carry the bag to the surface).
The course covers:
Planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of drift diving.
Staying close to a buddy or together as a group
